Operation Grateful Hearts
Operation Grateful Hearts is non profit organization that exists to give back to military members, families, and veterans that have sacrificed greatly for our freedoms. Founded by a proud military family, Operation Grateful Hearts understands the hardships military families face and seeks to provide help to those in need.
While Operation Grateful Hearts is a year-round organization, their biggest event is the Christmas/Winter sponsorship program. This 100% volunteer-run organization needs your help this holiday season! No amount is too large or too small to make a difference in a military family’s Christmas.
This year, OGH is sponsoring over 100 families and veterans, as well as 27 veterans fighting cancer in the in the VA Oncology Department and 18 women from the Elderly Women’s Crisis Center. Most of these families and individuals need help with groceries, heat, and other essentials.
NO DONATION TOO SMALL OR TOO LARGE… 100% of all donations goes to the individual families.
Operation Grateful Hearts connects donors with families in need on a “Secret Santa” basis. You won’t meet the family, but you’ll ensure they have a joyful Christmas! You can sponsor a family (or families) or make a general donation that will be matched with a family that really needs it.
Donations are accepted during store hours at 5CR, or you can coordinate with a volunteer for pickup.

Operation Grateful Hearts began when tragedy struck Wendy Jo Ackley’s family. She and her family were floored by the outpouring of love and support they received and wanted to give back. She began sponsoring military members, their families, and veterans throughout the Treasure Valley.
Over the years, her organization has grown and partnered with other non-profits. Three years ago, Wendy Jo began a new partnership with the CW2 Joshua M Tillery Memorial Fund and 101.9 The Bull radio station to provide necessities and Christmas for local military families.
In 2017, Operation Grateful Hearts sponsored more than 100 families, providing necessities as well as enjoyment. In 2018, they were able to sponsor Christmas dinner for 400 deployed airmen from Mtn. Home AFB and more than 85 families in the Treasure Valley. In addition to Christmas gifts, toys, and family night out packages, families received essentials. Examples of other donations included: Gas and grocery cards, cords of wood for heating, monetary donations paid to the heating company to keep utilities from being turned off and parts/labor to repair the families’ only vehicle or heating system in the home.
Operation Grateful Hearts prides itself on providing for the unique needs of each individual family.

The Christmas Tree Project
Looking for more real Christmas spirit in the world? Become the change you want to see by joining us in helping children and families celebrate this holiday season with the timeless tradition of a Christmas tree.
The Christmas Tree Project began with one couple’s idea to give a Christmas tree away on Craigslist. David and Michelle Fein posted a free tree and were overwhelmed with responses in a matter of hours. Word about the idea quickly spread and friends, family, and strangers donated trees to people in need.
Today, the Christmas Tree Project has given away more than 3500 fully decorated trees. It began in Colorado Springs and has spread across the country, coming to the Treasure Valley for the first time this year.
The Christmas Tree Project is the place where you can fire the imaginations of adults and children alike by gifting them a fully decorated Christmas tree. Together, with your inspiration, love and help, we will make Christmas dreams come true for a child this year… by gifting them a Christmas tree through the Christmas Tree Project.
It is possible to light the world with smiles from children and their families alike through your gift of a Christmas tree!
